Welcome to Rooted Intentions, a garden consulting business founded in 2025. Based in the vibrant city of San Diego, we aim to help urban gardeners create thriving, sustainable green spaces, no matter the size or setting.
Mission: To guide clients in building resilient, personalized gardens through expert consultation, design, and ongoing support.
Rooted Intentions was created to provide a resource to those who are intentionally wanting to create a garden space. We are here to share years of knowledge and help you get a jump start on your gardening journey or through some hurdles. Our goal is to help you create a garden space you choose to enjoy, daily.
Leslie's passion for gardening blossomed in 2020 and has since grown into a deeper understanding of plants, their unique growth habits, and the conditions they need to flourish. With years of hands-on experience, she specializes in transforming urban spaces into lush, productive gardens that bring joy, beauty, and a connection to nature.
With almost two decades of experience in project management, hospitality, customer service, and nonprofit management, Leslie has developed a strong foundation in creating meaningful connections, managing projects, and delivering exceptional service. These skills in combination with her passion for gardening have naturally led her to take the next step in growing her own business.
Leslie has been dedicated to expanding her gardening knowledge, diving into everything from seed starting to espaliering fruit trees to maximize garden space, intensive planting, and companion planting to deter pests. She believes there’s a plant for every situation, and with the right knowledge and care, anything is possible. Her journey has taught her that growth is a process—and the most important thing is to just keep growing.
Rooted Intentions is Leslie’s way of sharing this passion with others who intentionally want to grow a greener thumb, helping transform spaces with plants and providing guidance to cultivate growth—both in the garden and in life.
Here are some basic questions and answers but if you don't see your question here, simply message us. We're here to help.
We will start off with an initial phone or video call, about 10-minutes, so I can understand the goals of the in-person consultation.
The in-person consultation will take place in your space where you'd like to install or update your kitchen garden space. We will review light requirements, garden space and discuss the spaces use. Depending on our goals, we can provide recommendations for the space to ensure you have the proper foundation and structure for a successful garden. All to be summarized in a post-consultation report.
Absolutely! We can have the consultation via Google Meet. If you need guidance on the placement of an outdoor raised garden, please send pictures prior to the meeting.
Of course you can! We all have to start somewhere and we would love to help you get a strong start to setting up the garden. We can take it slow and just get you started with the basics and grow your gardening confidence. All you have to do is come with a positive attitude and we will have a great time.
If you'd like to do more on your own, we can provide a DIY garden kit with instructions along with monthly garden coaching sessions for one-on-one guidance.
The current workshops will focus on herbs. As many are perfect for growing in containers. If you're interested in booking a workshop and would like to include specific herbs or other plants, we can always change it up! Prices may vary for other plants that are not herbs.
The DIY Garden Kit is customized per client. We can include raised garden beds, protective coating for cedar raised beds, trellises, hardware cloth (if necessary), planting plans, plant lists, seeds, soil and amendments, and more. Most items can be delivered to your home. And of course, instructions to make sense of it all!
If you live in San Diego, we can also schedule to drop off plants and seeds, so you're ready to plant. Just follow the planting plan that specifies placement and you're ready to go!
The only items not included in the kit is irrigation. We can incorporate this topic into the conversation, but actual irrigation supplies are not included.
We would love to visit a garden center and/or nursery with you! We can share our knowledge of what to look for in plants, how to read nursery tags, and share our insight of what to look for to ensure you bring home healthy and not pest-ridden plants.
The answer is always yes. We provide planting and maintenance plans as often as you'd like. We can help you get a jump start on the season by doing all the planting, at the appropriate time of the season. We come prepared with plants and seeds for the veggies and herbs you prefer and want to harvest. Or if you only need help with maintenance, we can come by each month or more frequently if you'd like, to maintain plants with pruning and weeding. If we harvest anything, we will be sure to leave that for you to enjoy. Each visit is limited to 1-hour.
